Researcher

You are a researcher working at a university, research facility or in a laboratory or clinical setting. You import, move, use or manage plant, animal, human or biological material.

Good biosecurity is about awareness and action. Your research material may carry pests, diseases and weeds. Be aware of, and adhere to, all biosecurity conditions for research materials you import or move. Know how to identify and report anything unusual.

Your university or research institution may have their own biosecurity policies and procedures. Enquire at your institution and make sure you follow them.

Be aware

Know the risks. Stay informed. Know the biosecurity conditions that apply and be aware that they can change.

Biosecurity conditions

Check what can be imported into Australia. Meet all conditions.

Movement in Australia

Moving material interstate may also require a permit. Check with local authorities before transporting any materials that may pose a biosecurity risk across borders.

In your area

Plan ahead

Importing material for research or laboratory use usually requires an import permit. Consider this in the planning phase of your research, project or work.

Take Action

Stay informed

Biosecurity import conditions may change. Biosecurity requirements that applied in the past may not be the same now.
